Botherhood of Man

The Innocence Mission is an undiscovered gem of a band, IMHO.  I've always loved this song, but as I was working out this morning, a particular lyric just struck me.  I love the sentiment, if only we could have more of the Brotherhood of Man:

Though I did not learn her name
And when the subway dimmed, a stranger lit my way
This is the brotherhood of man

If the Creek Don't Rise

I don't listen to a huge amount of Dylan LeBlanc, but this song caught my attention (and is on my playlist).  This morning as I'm sweating and all my podcasts have been played, If the Creek Don't Rise came on.  Wow.  I don't know why, but it just hit me hard.  The musical soundscape perfectly fits the lyrics.

'Cause love is like water and water gets rough
You can drown underneath the surface or keep your head out
Let me love you again, I think we'll make it this time
Oh, if the good Lord's willing and the creek don't rise

Perverse Desires

I can't help but be bowled over by the crafting of these phrases.  The last line just kills me.

More often than not when it comes to you

You want whatever's not in front of you

Deep down, I know this includes me too

From Long Lost Brother, an Over The Rhine song from their double album Ohio.

Life Goes On

Just struck me the other day:
Oh yeah, life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin' is gone
From John Cougar Mellen Camp's Jack and Diane

Words

For all of us who just don't process conversations as quickly as we would like to.  From Bill Mallonee and the Vigilantes of Love and their Now as the Train Pulls Away:
Words they just stumble
Fail you every time

What a beautiful piece of heartache

I never really got the achy-breaky heart-aches until my wife of 20 years left me:
What a beautiful piece of heartache
This has all turned out to be
Lord knows we've learned the hard way
All about healthy apathy
From Over the Rhine's Latter Days.

Oh how he can run!

From the Wall Street Journal on Tim Tebow:
He runs, but he doesn't run gracefully. He runs upright and frantic. He runs like he's stealing a toaster from the mall.

Sweetness!
